Distribution:  Western Central Pacific: South China Sea basin. The locality (river Svetlaya) for the Viet Nam record (ZIL 8396) needs verification.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-16; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 14-16; Vertebrae: 52-55. Gill rakers on the first arch, 19-22; vertebrae 52-55; predorsal scales 41-52; possesses large tricuspid teeth, short lower jaw and weakly elongate upper jaw projection; pelvic fins more posteriorly located than in Hyporhamphus limbatus.
