Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: Endemic to the rio Uruguai; Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-14; Anal soft rays: 9-11. Laterosensory canal along the ventral surface of dentary always with 5 pores; anterior profile of the head rounded in lateral view; and scales on the lateral line 40-45 (Ref. 81195). Description: Dorsal-fin rays ii,10-12; ii,11; anal-fin rays ii,7-9; pectoral-fin rays i,10-12; pelvic-fin rays i,7-8. Longitudinal series of scales between lateral line and pelvic-fin origin 3.5-5.5. Gill rakers on first epibranchial approximately 12, most in form of small denticulated plates (Ref. 81195).
