Environment:  reef-associated; marine
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Sodwana Bay, South Africa and Reunion.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-11; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 10-10. 2 bars behind eye; dark spot above opercle; about 6 dark bars on body (Ref. 2798); second dorsal-fin rays I,11; anal-fin rays I,10; pectoral-fin rays 17; no black spot dorsally at end of caudal peduncle; body scales large, longitudinal scale count 28-30; body more robust, depth at anal-fin origin 16-19% SL (Ref. 57078).
