Haplochromis argenteus Regan, 1922

Max. size:  20.2 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; depth range - 12 m
Distribution:  Africa: Lake Victoria.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits sheltered localities with a mud bottom. Some specimens were collected from more exposed areas with a hard substrate. Juveniles have been collected from exposed beaches (Ref. 4983). The gut content of the specimens which were examined consisted of insect remains (terrestrial insects & Ephemeroptera larvae) and fish remains of Engraulicypris argenteus (Ref. 558).
