Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Gymnoscopelinae
Max. size:  8.8 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 50 - 250 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Mostly in the region of Antarctic Polar Front, but northwards to Subtropical Convergence in Falkland Current region and at 45°E.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 16-18; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 17-20
Biology:  Oceanic and mesopelagic (Ref. 4066). Found in the upper 100 m at night.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 28 June 2018 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
