Family:  Congridae (Conger and garden eels), subfamily: Heterocongrinae
Max. size:  100 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range - 30 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Northwest and Southwest Pacific: Antitropical. Northwest Pacific: Hachijojima and Hachijokojima, Japan. Southwest Pacific: New Zealand.
Diagnosis:  Body diameter to about 10 mm.
Biology:  Inhabit sand flats adjacent to reef, usually at moderate depth below bases of drop-offs or steep slopes to feed on plankton drifting over (Ref. 48635).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 24 November 2016 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
