Family:  Fundulidae (Topminnows and killifishes)
Max. size:  12 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine, non-migratory
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: southeastern Florida (including Keys) in USA. This species requires a new scientific name, since Fundulus similis is correctly a synonym of Fundulus majalis, having been based on the Gulf population of that species.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-13
Biology:  Commonly found around mangroves and on tidal flats where vegetation is sparse and short (Ref. 5723). Not a seasonal killifish. Is difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 18 January 2019 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
