Festucalex erythraeus (Gilbert, 1905)

Max. size:  8.2 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 18 - 81 m
Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: Mozambique to Hawaii.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 18-21; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 4-4. Reddish in color when alive (Ref. 4281).
Biology:  Benthopelagic (Ref. 58302). Reported to have been dredged in 80.5 m (Ref. 4281). Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205). It is exported as an aquarium species from Hawaii.
