Family:  Nothobranchiidae (African rivulines)
Max. size:  6 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; pH range: 6.5 - 7; dH range: 7 - 10, non-migratory
Distribution:  Africa: Central African Republic (Kadei and Ubangi drainages of the middle Congo River basin), southeastern and eastern Republic of Congo (DjouĆ© River and right bank tributaries of the middle Congo basin) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (Pool Malebo to "Portes d'Enfer" waterfalls) (Ref. 47774).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  E. chevalieri chevalieri occurs in small rivers, creeks and swamps in the rainforest and forested savannah, while E. chevalieri nigricans is most probably restricted to forested areas and is not expected to inhabit the adjacent savannah (Ref. 47774). Not a seasonal killifish. Is very difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139).
