Max. size:  37 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range - 20 m
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific: Kodiak Island, Alaska to Monterey Bay, California, USA.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-13; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 8-9. Caudal broadly rounded. Pelvic fins small.
Biology:  Commonly found in inshore rocky and sandy areas (Ref. 2850). Feeds mainly on algae (Ref. 2850) but also shrimps, crabs, amphipods, mussels, and small fishes (Ref. 4925).
