Max. size:  12 cm TL (male/unsexed); 9.3 cm TL (female)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 0 - 60 m
Distribution:  Southwest Pacific: Australia and New Zealand (Ref. 5755).
Diagnosis:  Eel-like, shallow body depth; 1 to several symphyseal fangs on dentary and premaxilla; lacking cardiform teeth, pelvic fins, and swim bladder rocker bone; a patch of ridges posteriorly on the ventral surface of the swim bladder (Ref. 34024). Vexillum absent in adults (Ref. 34024).
Biology:  Uncommon species (Ref. 34024). Benthic species (Ref. 75154) found over soft bottoms of the continental shelf (Ref. 7300, 75154). Minimum depth reported taken from Ref. 57178.
