Family:  Muraenesocidae (Pike congers)
Max. size:  200 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 10 - 100 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: Gibraltar to Angola, including western Mediterranean.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found on the shelf on sand and muddy bottoms (Ref. 2683). Larger individuals caught mainly in 75-100 m depth (Ref. 26999). Carnivorous.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 20 October 2013 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
