Family:  Gurgesiellidae (Pygmy skates)
Max. size:  32.8 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 385 - 870 m
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: Florida, USA to the Bahamas.
Diagnosis:  Upper surface of disc is largely smooth except around the eyes. Pale coffee brown except for a translucent area either side of rostral cartilage. Pale areas around the mouth, gill openings and tail (Ref. 6902).
Biology:  Solitary (Ref. 26340). Oviparous (Ref. 50449). Eggs have horn-like projections on the shell (Ref. 205).
