Family:  Labridae (Wrasses), subfamily: Cheilininae
Max. size:  12 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 7 - 30 m
Distribution:  Pacific Ocean: Pohnpei, Caroline Islands and Marshall Islands. Strays found at Johnston Atoll (Ref. 9710).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-9; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 9-9. The initial phase of this species is orange-red becoming nearly white ventrally.
Biology:  Occurs in small groups over lagoon patch reefs (Ref. 1602). Benthopelagic over coral and rubble (Ref. 58302). Feeds on zooplankton in the water column (Ref. 9710).
