Family:  Champsodontidae (Crocodile toothfishes)
Max. size:  10.6 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 135 - 1120 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Dahlak Archipelago, Gulf of Suez, Gulf of Aqaba, and has been collected in the central Red Sea. It is not clear whether there are two separate populations, one of the deep water (360-380 m) and one of the deep sea (1085-1120 m) or whether vertical migrations of 700 m or more take place. Gene flow occurs between the Gulf of Aden, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aqaba.
