Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; pH range: 7.40000009536743 - 8.39999961853027; dH range: 7 - 30
Distribution:  Africa: widely distributed in Lake Malawi and upper Shire River.
Diagnosis:  Diagnosis: snout longer than B. lepturus, and subadults deeper bodied (Ref. 55954). Coloration: dark band on the lateral line; subadults typically yellow (Ref. 55954).
Biology:  Found over muddy bottoms in shallow, sheltered bays. Also occurs over sandy areas off beaches. Juveniles inhabit very shallow sandy shores. Feeds on fish (Ref. 5595).
