Family:  Labridae (Wrasses), subfamily: Bodianinae
Max. size:  12 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 30 - 113 m
Distribution:  Western Pacific: antitropical distribution, Japan, New Caledonia and Norfolk Island.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 12-12. Pelvic fin mostly black (except spine and basal 1/3 of the fin).
Biology:  Specimens were collected from rocky reefs at 30-113 m depths, but may be more common at greater depths (Ref. 75973). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205).
