Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 30 - 178 m
Distribution:  Southwest Pacific: off northern New Zealand.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 75-75; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 45-45. Small specimens greyish brown to blackish with a pale yellowish tinge; larger specimens orange or yellow with mottled brown markings.
Biology:  A rare species found in rocky areas (Ref. 34024). Reported to occur in rock pools (Ref. 9003). Possibly nocturnal (Ref. 9003).
