Family:  Trichiuridae (Cutlassfishes), subfamily: Aphanopodinae
Max. size:  77 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 0 - 900 m
Distribution:  Indo-Pacific.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 61-64; Dorsal soft rays (total): 88-93; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 80-85; Vertebrae: 137-142. Body silvery, jaws and opercle blackish. The inside of the mouth and gill cavities black.
Biology:  Adults benthopelagic from 640 to 820 m, juveniles mesopelagic from 170 to 900 m (Ref. 6181). Minimum depth from Ref. 58018.
