Max. size:  46.2 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 101 - 503 m
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: eastern Gulf of Mexico to the mouth of the Amazon River, including the Bahamas and the West Indies.
Diagnosis:  Vertebrae: 168-176. The only western Atlantic species with 33-38 lateral line pores (Ref. 40828). This species shows a wide range of variation and anomaly in the number and arrangement of head pores (Ref. 40828).
