Distribution:  South America: Córrego da Areia, rio Paraíba do Sul basin in Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 17-17; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-9; Anal spines: 7-8; Anal soft rays: 7-8; Vertebrae: 26-26. Distinguished from other congeners by the combination of the following characters: caudal vertebrae 12; absence of mark on side of head; dorsal-fin spines 17; dorsal-fin rays 8-9; anal-fin rays 7-8; snout robust; wide ectopterygoid; arm of epibranchial 1 long; arms of epibranchial 2 with two short tubular processes; absence of depression on head; arms of vertical trunk bar 7 with the same width (Ref. 79631).
