Family:  Leiognathidae (Slimys, slipmouths, or ponyfishes), subfamily: Leiognathinae
Max. size:  16 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: southern India, throughout Indo-Malayan region, northern Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines, reports from Fiji. Further study is required to determine if the population spanning this wide range comprise one single species.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found in coastal waters. Stays near the substrate and feeds on fish, crustaceans, chaetognaths, nematodes, bivalves, and gastropods (Ref. 5213).
