Distribution:  Africa: Lake Malawi.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 16-17; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-11; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 8-9
Biology:  Found in sandy areas (Ref. 40898). Territorial males defend a small patch of sand against conspecific males only (Ref. 40898). Foraging females and non-territorial males form large schools (Ref. 40898).
