Family:  Atherinopsidae (Neotropical silversides), subfamily: Menidiinae
Max. size:  9 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; brackish; marine
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: Panama and Costa Rica.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits rivers of low to high current velocity, between 8 and 60 m elevation. Swims in schools near the surface of the water. An active fish that captures terrestrial and aquatic insects, but also eats filamentous algae and diatoms (Ref. 36880).
