Family:  Stomiidae (Barbeled dragonfishes), subfamily: Astronesthinae
Max. size:  15 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 0 - 670 m
Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: in tropical and subtropical waters, including the northwestern Pacific Trough (Ref. 41299).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-14; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 18-21; Vertebrae: 54-56. Body black; large specimens may have pale luminous patches around postorbital organ (Ref. 3982).
Biology:  Mesopelagic (Ref. 58302, 75154). Minimum depth from Ref. 58018.
