Family:  Stomiidae (Barbeled dragonfishes), subfamily: Astronesthinae
Max. size:  26.2 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic-oceanic; marine; depth range - 100 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic between 23°30'N and 24°S.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-15; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 16-19. Body black, head with small pale dots (developing with growth) behind eye and on gill cover (Ref. 3982). Barbel without apparent terminal modification (Ref. 37473).
Biology:  Mesopelagic species (Ref. 27121).

Threat to humans:  harmless
