Family:  Argentinidae (Argentines or herring smelts)
Max. size:  13 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 30 - 400 m
Distribution:  Southwest Pacific: Endemic to Australia (Eucla, Western Australia (127°19'E) to Smoky Cape, New South Wales (30°55'S).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  A temperate, mesopelagic, as well as benthic species (Ref. 7300, 75154) recorded from the continental shelf and slope (Ref.9563, 75154).

Threat to humans:  harmless
