Family:  Percidae (Perches), subfamily: Etheostomatinae
Max. size:  7.1 cm TL (male/unsexed); max. reported age: 3 years
Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  North America: Mississippi River basin from Wisconsin and Minnesota south to Mississippi and Texas in the USA, in the Lake Michigan drainage in Wisconsin, and in the Sabine and Neches River drainages in Texas.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits sandy runs of medium to large rivers (Ref. 5723) and streams (Ref. 10294). Feeds on aquatic insects (Ref. 79012).
