Family:  Oreosomatidae (Oreos), subfamily: Oreosomatinae
Max. size:  42 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 1,300.0 g
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 366 - 732 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  North Pacific: Japan to Bering Sea and to southern central California, USA. Karrer 1990 (Ref. 6545) notes that records of Allocyttus verrucosus from the North Pacific belong to Allocyttus folletti (Ref. 6545).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 33-33; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 31-32. Eye large, about 1/2 head length; scales with a central ridge on interorbital, nape, belly and bases of soft dorsal and anal fins (Ref. 559).
Biology:  Young oceanic; adults near bottom (Ref. 2850).
