Max. size:  35 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 1 - 40 m
Distribution:  Eastern Indian Ocean: southern Australia, from southern Western Australia to New South Wales and Tasmania.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 30-35; Anal soft rays: 27-34
Biology:  Found in seagrass beds and on rocky reefs. Females resemble the rough leatherjacket Scobinichthys granulatus (Ref. 9563).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 17 July 2017 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
