Etymology: Noturus: Greek, noton = back + Greek, oura = tail; refred to the position of the tail over the back (Ref. 45335);  stigmosus: stigmosus meaning marked or branded, referring to the two light spots typically present just anterior to the dorsal spine (Ref. 10294).
