Comments: type locality of the holotype of Placidochromis boops: 'South West Arm' (Ref. 55898). Found in Senga Bay, north of the Nankumba Peninsula, in the southwest arm of Lake Malawi and north of Mvunguti (Ref. 55898). Also Ref. 79521.

Etymology: Placidochromis: Latin, placidus = of peaceful or tranquile appearance + Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch (Ref. 45335);  boops: From the Greek "bo-opis" = cow-eyed, big-eyed, referring to its large eyes (Ref. 55898).
