Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Paraschistura aredvii can be diagnosed from the following congeners in Iran by a combination of non-unique characters: from P. nielseni by the absence of a suborbital groove (vs. presence), a bold and distinct color pattern on the flank in front of the dorsal-fin origin (vs. faint or absent) and a more slender caudal peduncle (caudal peduncle depth 1.4-1.7 times longer than deep vs. 1.0-1.4); from P. bampurensis by the absence of a suborbital flap in males (vs. presence), 7-9 bars on flank (vs. 11-18), wider than interspaces (vs. usually narrower) and a blunt snout (vs. pointed); from P. cristata by the absence of a dorsal adipose crest (vs. presence) and an incomplete lateral line (vs. complete); from P. kessleri by having dark- or pale-brown, or grey, irregularly set and shaped bars, absent or very faint on the flank in front of the dorsal-fin origin (vs. bars prominent, regularly shaped and set); from P. abdolii, P. kessleri, P. cristata and P. turcmenica by having the back and flank behind dorsal-fin origin covered by scales (vs. absence of scales on the flank in front of the dorsal-fin origin in P. abdolii and P. cristata, scales completely absent in P. kessleri and P. turcmenica); and also from P. abdolii by a shorter and stouter body (body depth at dorsal-fin origin 14-17 % SL vs. 10-14) (Ref. 103390).
