Comments: Known from Zhujiang (= Pearl River) and Changjiang (=Yangze River) river drainages (Ref 33784). Reported from the provinces of Hubei and Guangdong (Ref. 33784). Present in Pearl River (45679, 89718). A popular cultured fish, introduced from its native range to other regions in the country (intensive culture and extensive stocking in all kinds of inland waters) (Ref. 55380). Also Ref. 26561, 41093.

Dorsal spines (total): 3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 25 - 27. Black gray in the back, silver white in the stomach. Several vertical black strips in the side. Green gray colored in all fins (Ref. 33303).
