Etymology: Corydoras:Greek, kory = helmet + greek, doras = skin (Ref. 45335); brittoi:Named for Marcelo Ribeiro de Britto for his extensive contribution to the taxonomy and systematics of the Corydoradinae; a genitive (Ref. 128862).

This species can be distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: posterior margin of dorsal fin spine with laminar serrations directed towards the origin of the spine; presence of two longitudinal black stripes on flanks; presence of sparse black chromatophores without any conspicuous pattern on the anterior portion of dorsal fin; absence of a conspicuous black marbled coloration pattern on head. Colouration: black spots on caudal fin, some spots arranged, forming transversal bars; and brownish dorsal-fin spine (Ref. 128862).
Found in small clear water stream (2-3 m wide and 0.5-2 m depth), with preserved riparian vegetation, swift water current, and bottom composed mainly of sand and dead leaves (Ref. 128862).
