Comments: Known from lower and upper rio Tocantins drainage. Type locality, Núcleo de Estudos Ambientais, rio Tocantins near mouth of rio Lajeado, Porto Franco, Tocantins, MCP 28425 (holotype, 13.05 cm SL) (Ref. 49598).

Issue
In Ambruster et al., 2015 (Ref. 99824), no characteristics were found to separate Ancistomus spiloma from A. micrommatos and A. spinosissimus, and these may represent the same species.

Épines dorsales (Total) : 1; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 7; Épines anales: 1; Rayons mous anaux: 4. Elongate odontode on cheek 40-60. No dark spots on the ventral surface of head and body. Fins and lateral and dorsal plates of head and body with numerous dark dots. First anal-fin pterygiophore greatly expanded and exposed. Eyes large, dorsoventrally placed. Lips well-developed, occupying most of ventral surface; lower lip mostly covered with papillae, except for a smooth band near border of lips. Caudal fin I, 14, I; slightly concave, upper lobe shorter than lower lobe (Ref. 49598).
