Comments: Tropical and temperate distribution in Western Australia (Lower W coast, N coast) (Ref. 75154). Occurs only in southwestern Australia, from Recherche Archipelago to the Houtman Abrolhos (Ref. 6871). Common on coastal reefs (Ref. 6871). Records from Northern Australia and Queensland are erroneous (Ref. 6778, 6779). Also Ref. 244.

Etymology: Aulohalaelurus: aulon (Gr.), channel or groove, being a form of Halaelurus (now in Pentanchidae) with “conspicuous labial folds”. (See ETYFish);  labiosus: Latin for large-lipped, referring to its prominent labial folds or furrows. (See ETYFish).
