Comments: Type locality, Kangaroo I., South Australia, SAMA F701 (holotype of Lissocampus caudalis). Known from Tamar River, Tasmania (41°20'S), Westernport Bay, Victoria (145°08'E) to Rottnest Island, Western Australia (32°S) (Ref. 75154). Also Ref. 51523.

Eastern Indian Ocean: endemic to Australia.

Max length : 10.0 cm SL macho / no sexado; (Ref. 5316)

Found among kelp and Zostera sp. In rock pools and shallow coastal waters; sometimes among floating Sargassum. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205). Males may be brooding at 7 cm SL.
